From Fishing to Giving Back: Supporting Vissers van Hoop

At Leliekloof Lodge, we have always believed that the natural resources around us can be enjoyed responsibly, and there is something special about being able to share what we have with others.
We are therefor very pleased to support a wonderful initiative started by one of our friends and regular fisherman, Rowen Smith, Vissers van Hoop.
The idea is simple, but the impact is meaningful: carp are caught from dams, processed into fishcakes, and then distributed to people who are in need of food. What began from a personal desire to give back has grown into a practical community initiative, with large catches helping to turn an enjoyable weekend of fishing into something that can put food on someone's table.
Leliekloof Lodge is fortunate to offer one of the dams where the team is able to fish carp. They have already had some remarkable catches here allowing many fish to be redirected towards the project.
Our role in the project is small: we provide access to our dam and are happy to support the fishermen who are doing the work. The real credit belongs to the people behind Vissers van Hoop, who give their time, energy and resources to catching, preparing and distributing the fish.
A call to other dam owners
For this initiative to grow, the team is looking for additional dams where they can responsibly catch carp for the project.
If you own or manage a dam with carp and would like to learn more about the initiative, we encourage you to read the full project information and get in touch with Rowen directly.

We are proud to play a small part in supporting an initiative that takes something as simple as a day of fishing and turns it into an opportunity to give back.
Sometimes, giving back starts with simply sharing what we have.
