Three Years of Leliekloof Lodge!

This month, we’re celebrating 3 years since starting our journey at Leliekloof Lodge, nestled in the magical Valley of Art.

Returning to South Africa after 21 years abroad came with its own set of challenges — reconnecting with a familiar yet changed landscape, rebuilding community ties, and starting from scratch. But what an adventure it’s been.

Since taking over, we’ve lovingly restored and reimagined the old farmhouse:

  • Repainted bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms & exteriors

  • Updated the plumbing to add that all-important dishwasher (because no one wants to do dishes on holiday!)

  • Refurnished the living room

  • Added bunk beds to make both bedrooms in the Lodge perfect for families & groups

  • Installed a TV & DSTV for cosy winter nights

  • Cleared out years of storage to create guest-friendly, welcoming spaces

  • Renovated the Rondavel with a kitchenette, seating area, and its own private bathroom

  • Landscaped overgrown shrubs to open up views to stunning rock formations

  • Added extra security to the premises

We also made the farmhouse work for both guests and our family by dividing it into two private areas, each with separate entrances.

Our vision: a family-friendly nature escape for fishing fans, hikers, adventurers and rock art lovers. And while letting go of the original rock art guiding setup had its complications, we’re proud to now offer our own unique take on rock art tours in this magical landscape.

Every improvement had to be carefully timed around guest bookings (think drying paint, dust, and last-minute touches) but we’ve made it through. And we’re only just getting started.

Thank you to everyone who has visited, supported, and cheered us on. Here's to three years of Leliekloof Lodge and to the next chapter in the valley!

Watch this space.
