Jackal Buzzard

The Jackal Buzzard is a common raptor seen and heard here at Leliekloof and is easily identifiable by its unusual loud yelping call which sounds exactly like a jackal.

Not only identifiable by its distinctive call, but also its striking plumage. An adult Jackal Buzzard's plumage on its back, legs and parts of its under wings are black. When in flight and seen from below, the Jackal Buzzard's flight feathers are mostly white with its chin, throat and chest a beautiful rich red-brown.

Food wise, The Jackal Buzzard hunts small prey from insects to rodents and small birds.
